L\'histoire
A l\'occasion d\'un hommage qui lui est rendu à New York, Yéhia, réalisateur égyptien, retrouve Ginger, son amour de jeunesse.
Ils avaient 19 ans. Le rêve américain était le virus du siècle. Yéhia l\'Alexandrin et Ginger l\'Américaine étudiaient dans le plus prestigieux Institut d\'Art Dramatique, en Californie. Ils s\'étaient juré un amour éternel.
Quarante ans après, ils se retrouvent, le monde a changé, le rêve américain s\'est transformé... Tout les sépare mais pas tout à fait car Yéhia découvre que Ginger lui avait donné un fils... américain.
A travers une fresque endiablée, où les héros aiment, chantent, dansent, rient et pleurent, Youssef Chahine revisite son passé et nous parle de ses rapports complexes avec l\'Amérique qu\'il a tant aimée.

Egyptian film director Yehia encounters his first love Ginger as he was being celebrated in New York. Back then they were 19 years old. The American Dream was the thing of the 20th century. Yehia, the boy from Alexandria and Ginger the American gal were students at the most prestigious Institute of Dramatic Art, California. They had pledged to love each other for ever. 40 years on they are back together but the world has changed and the American Dream is no longer what it used to be. They are poles apart but not quite though … for Yehia finds out that he had begotten an American child, a boy. Through a boisterous epic in which heroes love, sing, dance, laugh and cry, Youssef Chahine reconsiders his past and his ambiguous relationship to America which he loved so much
